The explosive growth of Texas Hold'em poker has also spawned
online poker rooms creating an avenue for all levels of poker
players, from 1st time players wanting to learn the game,
experienced players honing their skills, to professional poker
players from around the globe to play this exciting game of
skill.
1998 was the year of inception for the online poker room and enjoying a steady growth of online players
since then. It wasn't until 2003
when Chris Moneymaker, winning an online qualifier into the
World Series of Poker main event in Las Vegas and winning the
main event prize of 2.5 million dollars, that the online poker
rooms exploded in popularity. Chris Moneymaker showed the poker
world that an average guy (with a cool poker name) can be a
world champion from only investing $38.00 in an online satellite
tournament.
For some people, going into a traditional brick and mortar poker
room may be somewhat daunting. Online poker rooms offer a non
intimidating, anonymous venue for players to hone their skills
and for some, become winning and profitable players.
While online poker rooms offer the traditional Texas Hold'em ring
games, tournaments and 'sit and go' games, satellite games give
a player the chance to win entries into major events such as the
WSOP.
